About Hs rEADING cLASS |
The High School Reading Class uses the LANGUAGE! Live Reading program. It has a consistent instructional approach that ensures students are working toward grade level literacy.
Each day, students experience two key instructional elements-Word Training and Text Training. The Word Training component of the program includes instruction critical to help students learn to read. Students work privately and independently on a computer to acquire skills they missed earlier in their school careers. The Text Training component of the program includes the instruction critical to help students comprehend what they read and write. Students work on comprehensive, engaging, teacher-directed lessons that connect them to the text. These two distinct components combine to build essential fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills. This class is working on Level 2, which enables students to hone the important literacy skills they need to not only become fluent readers, but comprehending readers. Syllable types, prefixes and suffixes, and Greek and Latin roots are critical components of Level 2. Students are graded by using a weekly rubric. The rubric records the Weekly Time in the Word Training part of the program, the number of skills mastered for Word Training, and Time on-task during Text Training. |
